Strive for Education

Today I was sitting in a doctor’s office, waiting to be called. As I sat there images of what happened today (at the University of Puerto Rico) were all over the news. I saw how the police treated UPR students with disrespect and dragged them into vans as if they were animals. These students are fighting for justice, for the future of their children, for education. I kept thinking about the people I know who study there and at UHS. I thought of how scary this situation might be for them. All I’m really saying is that I just feel sorry for how ignorant I used to be about this whole situation. I've never really cared for politics. I really don’t know if I will be a UPR student in the future or not but what’s going on has definitely made me feel some kind of love towards all these students and what they’ve been through. Even though I wasn't born here, lately I've been feeling so proud of where I live. The crime rate over here is crazy and the government is too. I just hope things get better.
